Tokyo is the capital city of Japan, and world’s most populated megalopolis – the metropolitan area spreads over three prefectures with 38 million habitants.
Today we focused on the Tokyo Dome, a very large entertainment/leisure complex very near our hotel, in which the annual International Quilt Festival is in progress. It comprises a baseball stadium, an amusement park, the LaQua spa, a variety of shops and restaurants, and the Tokyo Dome Hotel (booked out). The dome is weather-proofed by an air pressurised flexible roof so one has to enter through air-locks. The 55,000 seat Dome is the home stadium of the Yomiuri Giants, a professional baseball team. Concerts, festivals and other events are held in the stadium when there are no games.
We were there from 10.30 till 4 and just managed to see it all. I had tickets for another day which we did not use. Most food outlets and toilets are above the seating (bleachers), but fortunately a few are on the floor level. We had a light lunch in a space run by a locally grown coffee business. The many staff/police are very kind and helpful, such a difference to the Europeans in general.
We found a small Indian cafe nearby for a take-away.
Each day a new set of kimonos are placed on the bed, to wear to the onsen; each day I place them in the cupboard, so we are accumulating them! A reminder of the soap tablets mentioned in 2018 at Victoria Falls. Similarly, the 4 shampoo bottles are placed the same every day – a good plan except that the one on the right blocks the tap handle.
